Dr. Saucier is an exceptional leader in higher education, committed to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion. Originally from Saskatoon, Dr. Saucier is a member of the Central Urban Métis federation, is president of Vancouver Island University and previously served as president of MacEwan University in Alberta (2017-July 2019), as well as the provost and vice-president, academic at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (2013-2017) – recently rebranded as Ontario Tech University. Her senior leadership roles follow a successful career in neuroscience, where she researched and published extensively and successfully challenged gender biases in how we understand space and navigation. She was awarded a Canada Research Chair in Behavioural Neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge and taught 15 different courses and over 3,500 students at the University of Regina, the University of Saskatchewan, the University of Lethbridge and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. She also co-authored three textbooks which are widely used in North America, Australia and Great Britain. Dr. Saucier is currently a member of Universities Canada’s Education Committee, offering strategic advice and direction to the organization, helping to set priorities and goals for Canada’s 96 universities. Her advice as a Métis president, and as a president wholly committed to reconciliation has been invaluable for Universities Canada
