Speaker Bio
Whitney Desjarlais is from Kehewin Cree Nation in Alberta and is the first female Indigenous driller in Canada. She has an extensive trade background and is passionate about paving the way for women wanting to further their careers in the skilled trades. Beginning her career as a labourer, Whitney worked her way up the construction industry for 8 years prior to her existing role. She has wide-variety of experience working as a cement finisher, skid steer operator, greenhand, floorhand, and derrikhand. Whitney was able to attain her Blow Out Prevention ticket through her employment with Pimee Well Servicing Ltd, which led to her becoming a certified driller. Throughout her career, she has challenged the unconscious bias that the field is only for men. As Whitney and Pimee work toward establishing an all-female rig crew, she continues to push boundaries and raise awareness to other companies that women can join and become successful in the oil and gas industry.
