Jamie Linington is a Metis women born and raised in Slave Lake, Alberta to an intergenerational commercial fishing family. Work ethics and motivation are core values and foundations instilled through the family business and livelihood as commercial fishers deep rooted since time immemorial.

In addition to the family business Jamie was immersed into local Indigenous organizations as a youth representative and advocate such as friendship centre’s, Metis Nation of Alberta and a variety of Indigenous youth related advocacy groups and committees. Participation in these sectors developed Jamie as a leader and advocate with strong abilities and understanding of governance, negotiating skills, social awareness and advocacy.

In 2012 Jamie welcomed her first born son into the world and ignited a new purpose and world view. Advocating and trail blazing for the next generation has become the center of Jamie’s business and advocacy. Today Jamie is a mother of three, two boys and one girl and successfully owns and operates NWT Great Slave Lake top producing commercial fishing outfit alongside her partners and family Troy Linington (brother) and Brian Emes (partner). In 2021 Jamie was elected President of the Freshwater Fish Harvesters Association and is spear heading the advancement of Inland Freshwater commercial fishers of which is represented by 90 percent Indigenous fisher men and women.
