Since 2003, Monica has focused her commercial banking career on supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs realize their dreams and being a voice of reconciliation. During this time, she has held a variety of progressive positions in Indigenous Banking, including Senior Manager and Business Centre Manager.
In her current role as Regional Manager, Client Diversity, she leads BDC’s national strategy to support Indigenous entrepreneurs in accessing capital and resources by collaborating with Indigenous organizations and connecting entrepreneurs from coast to coast to coast. She also Chairs the Indigenous Peoples Employee Resource Group. In both roles, she guides and supports BDC’s reconciliation journey by honouring the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Call to Action #92.
As a proud Cree woman from the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation and being raised in northern Manitoba, she understands the unique challenges many rural and remote Indigenous entrepreneurs face.
Monica is passionate about giving back to the community and served on the Board of Mother Earth Recycling, an Indigenous social enterprise focused on creating meaningful jobs and opportunities for at-risk individuals. As well as the Community Futures East Interlake Board in Manitoba. She’s also a founding member of the Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce, the first in Canada.
Monica has a Bachelor of Physical Education and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) both from the University of Manitoba. She works and resides on the ancestral lands of Treaty 1 and the Homeland of the Metis Nation and respects that she’s a guest on these lands.
