Mike MacSween was appointed Suncor’s executive vice president, Mining and Upgrading in 2021. In this role, he leads all of Suncor’s mining and upgrading operations, which will include operating responsibility for Syncrude at the end of September 2021. Mike also oversees Suncor’s involvement with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo community.

Since joining Suncor in 1996, Mike has held a variety of leadership roles including vice president, Upgrading; vice president, Strategy and Development; senior vice president, In Situ; and executive vice president, Major Projects. Mike most recently served as executive vice president, Upstream, where he led all of Suncor’s operated and non-operated oil sands, in situ, and exploration and production assets.

Prior to joining Suncor, he held positions at Betz Process Chemicals Inc. and Shell Canada Inc.

Mike serves on the board of directors of the Canadian Welding Bureau, Syncrude and United Way of Calgary and Area. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of New Brunswick and a Master of Business Administration from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
